The Management Committee
Potten End Pre-School Association is a registered charity (registered number 1164830) originally established in the 1980s as a charitable unincorporated association and now (since 1st August 2016) run as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) using the Early Years Alliance (EYA) model constitution. It is therefore required by law to operate an active and full Management Committee at all times. It is the responsibility of the Management Committee (as Trustees of the charity) to oversee the running of the Pre-School in terms of financial interest, building maintenance, and health and safety constraints, working alongside the Pre-School Manager who manages the staff and the daily running of the Pre-School.
The Management Committee is made up of volunteers.
The Management Committee meet twice each term and committee members are normally elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve for a minimum of 24 months, although new members can join the Management Committee at any time. Members are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks (formerly CRB checks) before they can take up their appointment. The Management Committee consists of committed parents/relatives of Pre-School children, along with local representatives from the community and our members enjoy an extremely rewarding experience. If there are insufficient volunteers coming forward, the Management Committee may have to exercise their power to co-opt members to fill any vacant positions to help secure the future position of the running of the Pre-School, but it is important to understand that the excellent facilities currently provided for all our children could be jeopardised if a full committee is not in place.
All families who have chosen to be part of the Pre-School are requested to contribute in whatever way they can to support the Management Committee and/or the Friends of Potten End Pre-School. The Pre-School adheres strictly to the provisions laid down by the 2004 Children’s Act. The Management Committee is governed by the Pre-School’s own constitution and also by the Charities Act 2011 to ensure proper use of the Pre-School funds. The Pre-School is a member of the EYA, which is an educational charity working with Pre-Schools nationally.
