Learning through play

Information for Parents

Potten End Pre-School takes children from any religious or cultural background. Children are eligible from the beginning of the term after they reach 2 years of age.  The termly intake will vary according to the number of places available, the maximum being 26 children per session.  Children are required to attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week, increasing term by term subject to availability.

The morning and afternoon sessions follow a routine including a healthy snack, story and music-time to help the children know what is coming next. Children choose which toys or indoor or outdoor activities they wish to participate in and are encouraged to take part in others.  Each child is assigned a key-worker to ensure they receive the opportunities and encouragement to reach the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) goals as recommended by the Department of Education.

The Pre-School takes a large range of children from the ages of 2 years to rising 5 (Nursery Year at school). Although the children spend much of their time together, the older children belong to the Upper Pre-School. They wear a different uniform and have a member of staff dedicated to their education. We have a separate room where the Upper Pre-School children can experience a slightly different environment, spend some time in focused activities in a small group and focus on their ‘school ready skills’ such as getting dressed, following instructions and listening!
